Sony introduces a whole new concept. A full-frame camera for all those who prefer the compact design! We were allowed to test the Sony Alpha 7C and were surprised!

After the release of the Sony 7SIII, Sony now introduced the next full-frame camera. With this, Sony addresses all photographers who are in a dichotomy between APS-C and full-frame, closing the gap in the Alpha range.

The new Sony Alpha 7C represents the fusion between the compact Sony 6000 series and the Sony Alpha 7 series , appealing to all photographers who prefer full-frame, but don't want to carry a big camera! In this article, we'll explain which features the new Sony Alpha 7C comes with and how it performed in our test!

The most important at a glance

There has been much speculation as to whether a successor to the Sony 6000 series is coming or if the Sony Alpha 7 series will continue. Sony has created a hybrid between the two: the Sony Alpha 7C. However, one major detail has changed: The camera shines in a brand new improved silver body, which leans into the retro direction and clearly stands out from the Sony 6000 series. At just 509 grams, it is the lightest Sony full-frame camera with viewfinder on the market. Together with the new super-light 28-60 mm zoom lens, it weighs only 676 grams, making it ideal for all photographers who love lightness! A similar body to the Sony Alpha 6000, but equipped with the processor of the Sony Alpha 9 II. It has also adopted the 5-axis stabilizer from the Sony Alpha 7 III. The sensor has remained the same: The 24.2MP Exmor sensor provides improved color reproduction and an incredible 15 stops of dynamic range. The novelty is equipped with 693 phase detection points and 425 contrast autofocus points covering 93 it sensor, which we already know from the A7III . Real-time tracking and eye autofocus have also been enhanced and, as before, ensure fast shots with perfect focus! In addition, the A7C has been equipped with a brand new shutter that guarantees up to 200,000 releases.

Video performance with perfect autofocus

The Sony Alpha 7C also excels in video performance! The video button has been moved to the top and thus ensures even easier operation. You have the option of filming at 30p in 4K, and at 120p in Full HD. The full-frame camera uses "oversampling", which means that a denser pixel grid is used on the sensor, which ensures better image quality. In addition, the 24.2 MP are read out completely without pixel binning, so you have no loss of quality in the final result! In video mode, you have the option to switch between Hybrid AF, real-time eye autofocus that works for humans and animals, and Quick Focus using the touch function. The A7C is also the perfect companion for vloggers and streamers: the flip-and-tilt LCD gives you even more control over your shots. Equipped with a USB-C port for continuous operation (for example, for live streaming) and a headphone and microphone input, video recording is even easier.

New accessories!

The new Sony Alpha 7C is available in a kit with the ultra-light 28-60mm zoom lens, which is equipped with a linear motor and is the perfect all-round lens. Sony has also launched a new wireless flash that can be controlled directly from the menu. If you still own old A-mount lenses, you now also have the option of adapting them to E-mount with the new adapter. You don't have to sacrifice any functions: it is equipped with an AF motor, so you can shoot without any problems!
