Sony APS-C wide-angle offensive! Three new lenses introduced

Sony doesn't give up this year - again there are new products from Japan! This time there are three new lenses for Sony's APS-C cameras. Which focal lengths they are and what the lenses have to offer, we show you in our video.

New Sony APS-C lenses

If you are interested in vlogging with Sony APS-C cameras (e.g. with the ZV-E10), you will unfortunately find a rather meager selection of wide-angle lenses. At the same time, the options we have are also quite old. An expansion of the lens portfolio is therefore urgently needed.

We now have two wide-angle fixed focal lengths and a wide-angle zoom, all three as compact and lightweight as possible.

Sony SEL 10-20mm f/4 PZ at a glance

Let's start with the widest of the three lenses. We have here a 10-20mm power zoom wide-angle lens with a continuous aperture of f/4. Converted to 35mm (i.e. full frame), this corresponds to a focal length of 15-30mm. The lens is just 55 mm long and measures only 69 mm in diameter. It's also a good bit lighter than the old 10-18 at 178 g. Additionally, it has an internal zoom +amp; focus, so it doesn't extend further when zooming and maintains its size.

Sony has also built in a power zoom here for vloggers and content creators, which can be controlled via the zoom rocker on the camera, lens or even the external Bluetooth grip. This makes zooming in and out quick and easy.

The lens is also perfectly suited for use on the gimbal. Because we can control the PowerZoom directly via the gimbal and thus implement dynamic camera movements with a small weight. A special feature is the close focus limit of 20 cm in autofocus.
However, if you want to get even closer, you should turn off the autofocus, because with manual focus, we get a whole 7 cm closer to our subject at the focal length of 10mm and 3 cm at 20 mm than with autofocus.

Sony SEL 10-20mm f/4.0 G PZ Sony E-Mount

  • Sony 10-20mm f/4.0
  • APS-C ultra wide angle zoom lens
  • constant aperture of F4.0
  • Power zoom
  • excellent G-lens resolution
  • compact and lightweight design
  • 2 linear motors for outstanding AF speed, precision and tracking
  • ideal for photo and video shooting
  • Dust and moisture resistant with internal focusing and internal zoom

Sony SEL 11mm f/1.8 at a glance

The second new lens is the 11mm f/1.8 - this lens is also compact and lightweight. With the open aperture, this lens could also be interesting for e.g. astro or architecture photographers. But again, Sony has the vloggers and content creators especially in mind, who need a wide perspective and a lightweight system.

Sony SEL 11mm f/1.8 Sony E-Mount

  • Sony 11mm f/1.8
  • for APS-C E-mount cameras
  • Ultra wide angle APS-C lens
  • high speed: F1.8
  • compact and lightweight design
  • 2 linear motors provide excellent AF speed, precision and tracking (both photo and video).
  • Dust and moisture resistant

Sony SEL 15mm f/1.4 G at a glance

Sony takes things up a notch with the new 15mm. Here we not only have the maximum open aperture of f/1.4, but also a dedicated and unclickable aperture ring. This lens is also particularly small and lightweight, making it suitable for use on the gimbal. The bokeh especially stands out here, because the low closest focusing distance of 17 cm in manual focus (20 cm in AF) and the open aperture of 1.4 give us a nice, soft crop here.

Sony SEL 15mm f/1.4 G

  • Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G
  • APS-C wide angle lens
  • Fixed focal length
  • high speed: 1.4
  • excellent G lens resolution and bokeh
  • compact and lightweight design
  • 2 linear motors provide excellent AF speed, precision and tracking
  • ideal for photo and video shooting
  • Dust and moisture protected

All three lenses have improved glass elements, coatings, and of course new ultra-fast and quiet focus motors.

Our highlight here, however, is the 10-20mm, as it is very compact and lightweight despite the power zoom, making it the perfect addition in the vlogging sector. After all, when we look at Sony's hardware portfolio in this area, there are almost no wishes left unfulfilled.

In addition to the ZV-E10 as a vlogging camera and the new lenses, we also have the Bluetooth grip, the on-camera microphone and the small Bluetooth audio radio link with which we are well equipped in every situation. Finally, Sony has closed the gap in the lens portfolio and completed the kit.
